img2The Digestive Health & Nutrition Center was founded by Dr. Angela Merlo in 1990 in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. The center has expanded its success with another location in Princeton, New Jersey. Dr. Merlo has continued as this medical facility’s proprietor while also providing consultations concerning interventional Gastroenterology for adults and children. Dr. Merlo is also an educator with vast knowledge in the field of Gastroenterology that she shares with other professionals at national conferences and regional schools.

Dr. Merlo was recently selected for two prestigious awards: Americans Best Physicians and Top Doctor in Gastroenterology in New Jersey.

Dr. Merlo combines over 20 years experience, superior knowledge, and individualized care of patients. Each patient is treated with compassion and understanding at the Digestive Health & Nutrition Center. Dr. Merlo uses non-invasive or minimally-invasive procedures as much as possible, and performs interventional colonoscopy and endoscopy when necessary to provide patients with the most accurate diagnosis.

Once these tests are completed, Dr. Merlo is able to devise a superior treatment plan that is effective for each patient using a customized nutritional plan and state-of-the-art technology. Her goal is to go beyond the traditional treatments available and provide recommendations concerning a patient’s diet to control certain types of digestive disorders or deficiencies in enzymes without the long-term use of medications that may cause side effects.

  • Fellowship in Gastroenterology from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia
  • Diplomat Certified in Gastroenterology from the American Board of Internal Medicine

Educator

Dr. Merlo is currently affiliated with Sigma Xi: the Scientific Research Society and the American Gastroenterology Association. In the past, she was the Associate Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at the Helene Fuld Medical Center, now part of Capital Health in Trenton, N.J. She has also served on the Advisory Board of the MEDTAP Institute and the Board of Trustees of the Mercer County Medical Society.

The title of Clinical Associate Professor at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey was awarded to Dr. Merlo due to her belief in the continuing education and instruction of physicians in training and registered nurses.
