What Causes Bloating & Gas?

There are two sources of gas in the digestive system

  1. Swallowed air
  2. Gas produced by intestinal bacteria

Swallowed air is usually expelled by belching and very little passes beyond the stomach. But, the colon is the home of billions of friendly bacteria that contribute to our overall health. These bacteria digest foods and liquids that are not completely digested and absorbed. These bacteria release gases during their digestive process. Some intestinal gas is normal.
